DCU vs CD Guadalajara, Tues, 10/2, 9pm ESt

TV: 9 p.m. FSE-LIVE, FSC-11 pm
Radio Feed for Sudamericana Match

The team will be playing tonight in Estadio Jalisco, the third largest stadium in Mexico. The stadium holds 62,384 and is guaranteed to be a sellout because Chivas owner Jorge Vergara (also the owner of MLS club Chivas USA), has said all tickets for the game will be free. Seems the club hasn't been faring too well, attendance wise, the last few weeks in League play. Vergara doesn't want to own the first team to ever lose to Americans on Mexico soil so the free tickets will ensure a full house to push the 'Goats' to victory.

Tagzania

After United's 2-1 win in Washington, Chivas coach Jose Manuel de la Torre was fired. Efrain Flores was named the new coach. This weekend under Flores, Chivas came back from an early deficit to beat Veracruz 3-1. Alberto Medina, Ramon Morales and Sergio Santana scored for Chivas.

Marc Burch will not be available to play for DC, due to the red card he recieved in the first leg game. Who would have thought in April that we'd be saying today that Burch is a critical piece to the team's success and will be greatly missed tonight?
Bryan Namoff and midfielder Fred, both traveled with the team nursing injuries.Namoff is probable but I wouldn't expect to see Fred who pulled a groin in the TFC game Saturday.

NC High School 2A Conferences

There are currently sixteen 2A conferences in North Carolina, three of these are combined 2A/3A and six 1A/2A combos. As of October 1st, ten of these Conferences have at least one team ranked in the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association's Top 15.

Who's playing in the toughest conference in the State?

Well based on ranked teams, there can be no doubt that the Mid State Conference is the toughest. Five of the ten Conference teams are currently ranked:
Cardinal Gibbons #1
Durham School of arts #11
Northwood #13
Cedar Ridge #15
NC School of Math and Science #2 (1A)

Let's see how the rest shake out:

No doubt about focus as DCU defeats TFC 4-1

As the starters were announced my only thought was something DCenters had mentioned about a month ago; this team needs Ben Olsen or Jaime Moreno on the field to win. Tom Soehn had both sitting on the bench hoping to rest them for Tuesday's game in Guadalarja. Yes we were playing injury riddled Toronto, riding a ten game unbeaten streak, and have an organization running a League clinic in how to manage your roster but it still worried me. So in the 14' when Carl Robinson put in the free kick to put Toronto in the lead, 1-0 I began to sweat a little. It was still early and this team has gutted out so many wins down the stretch, I kept telling myself "we'll be alright". As the game continued though it became more and more apparent that United's lackluster performance wasn't changing. The half ends with Toronto up 1-0 and me down with our performance.

The second half begins with Moreno and Olsen on the field and immediately the game changes and my drinking slows. In the 52' Marc Burch hits a laser that knots the game and eighteen minutes later the score is 4-1 with the Black and Red knocking the ball around.

Tom Soehn tells Soccer Insider:
"But like I said, I got after them really hard at halftime, and maybe if we kept the same guys, the response would have been the same. I just think we put more into it."

Yeah well maybe but I'm more inclined to go with Marc Burch's understatement of the year: "We had a bad first half, but we brought those guys [Moreno and Olsen] on and it makes it a little different."

There are so many story lines here let's just hit the highlights:

Moreno gets Career goal #112

Fred pulls groin

Emilio gets 20th goal, drawing him ever-closer to Raul Diaz Arce's club record of 23 tallies and making him Major League Soccer's first 20-goal scorer since 2002.

NC High School News, 10/01

In the middle of moaning about the coverage of High School volleyball being greater than that of soccer in the local papers, we get over 1500 spectators at a game and a paper that not only covers the game but has video of the entire eighty minutes. I don't care if you watch it but please express your pleasure in seeing it covered with a click.
