JV Panthers Win 3-0

Ryan Owens started the scoring in the second minute by picking up an errant backpass and cooly slotting it underneath the keeper to put Hibriten up 1-0. Hibriten had most of the possession during the game with Austin Beard coming up big in goal on a couple of counters to make Ryan's goal stand as the game winner. Chris Rubio started things off on the second goal with a pass to Bobby Caudle who beat two defenders to put Hibriten up 2-0 in the twentieth minute. Chris Franzen put the game out of reach in the forty-sixth minute, burying a Bobby Caudle cross in the far corner.

The Varsity team lost to Catawba Valley Athletic Conference (CVAC) foe Newton-Conover(2A) by a 2-0 score.Newton currently holds first place in the Conference and are ranked #7 in the State in the 2A classification.

Red Devil Mark Colmer scored on a penalty kick in the 34' to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Newton-Conover controlled the midfield for much of the game forcing Hibriten to look for long balls over the top. The Red Devils speed made the counters difficult. The Hibriten defense did a good job of keeping their shape to keep the Panthers in the game. John Easton still nursing a broken hand played well in goal, coming up big several times. In the 62' Bryan George hit a laser to put Newton-Conover up 2-0. Hibriten continued to press but could not crack the "Gurley Boys" defense.

Hopefully for the rematch in Lenoir the Panthers will be at full strength and healthy. It should be a great rematch.
