The Charleston Battery opened up the scoring with a goal by Stephen Armstrong in the seventeenth minute. Clarence Goodson evened the score with a header five minutes later.
Arturo Alvarez stopped a repeat of last year's penalty kicks by scoring the winning goal in overtime. FC Dallas will wait for the results of the Seattle Sounder-Colorado Rapids game to see who they will meet in the semis.
